Eighth Dimension – Frequency will be released on September 5, 2025. I asked Gemini Google if anyone has ever written a book about ham radio for young adults. The answer was nada. Nothing.
So, I believe I have written the first of its kind—a fiction book that intertwines the world of ham radio with a captivating plot. Here is the storyline:
Chumana is a young woman trapped in a life of caretaking, questioning her origins and convinced the God of Israel has abandoned her—if he ever existed. But her world is about to shatter.
What if a hidden race, a superior intelligence, exists beyond our reality, acting as agents of the divine? Is a mastermind capable of bringing peace or wielding unimaginable power?
Chumana, with her extraordinary mind, is determined to find them, even if it means confronting the very nature of faith and the mysteries of creation.
Prepare to question everything you know about God’s role in the universe.
I have been a ham radio operator for a few years now, and the one thing I noticed from the beginning of my ham radio journey is that not many young people, or at least very few, are interested in the hobby. I believe it’s because no one has introduced it to them in a way that piques their curiosity or meaningfully engages them.
I taught CW (Morse Code) for two years at a local Christian school, and while some kids dropped out after a few weeks, others stuck with it, learned all the letters, and gained some proficiency with sending and receiving.
So, I believe the reason is exposure. They don’t know about it, and they don’t see its value until you challenge them. And as any amateur ham operator knows, there is always a challenge—new things to learn, new ways to connect, and the technology associated with it now is mind-boggling. I also do digital, and the ability to send text messages over the radio without using the internet is something I find amazing.
As an author, I decided to change that. I also homeschooled my two daughters, who are now grown (both are college graduates), and I wish I had known about ham radio back then. How much more fun the STEM subjects would have been. I’ve always said studying from a textbook is boring.
Introduce them to ham radio, and it provides an avenue of learning on many levels: math, including algebra, and geometry (computations); geography (DX’ing); science (outer space, meteorology, geology, materials science, electricity, energy, metallurgy, magnetism, to name a few); problem solving, emergency preparedness, and on and on.
